NEW YORK — The “Fast Family” is officially taking over the small screen. At the NBCUniversal upfront presentation on Monday, May 11, 2026, franchise star and producer Vin Diesel announced that a massive expansion of the Fast & Furious universe is in development for Peacock.
In a surprise reveal that electrified the audience at Radio City Music Hall, Diesel confirmed that the streaming platform is launching four separate live-action series set within the high-octane world of street racing and international espionage.
“The Fans Wanted More”
Diesel, who has been the face of the franchise for 25 years, noted that the jump to television has been a decade in the making. He credited the recent appointment of Donna Langley to oversee both film and television operations at NBCUniversal as the catalyst for the move.
”For the last decade, we realized that the fans have wanted more. They wanted us to expand the legacy characters, their stories,” Diesel told the crowd. “I had to wait until it was right… to know the integrity of characters and what makes us all feel like family would be protected in the TV space.”
Behind the Scenes: A Powerhouse Team
While specific plot details and character focuses remain under wraps, the creative team for the flagship series has already been assembled:
- Executive Producer: Vin Diesel (via One Race)
- Showrunners/Writers: Mike Daniels and Wolfe Coleman (veterans of NBC’s Shades of Blue).
- Franchise Guardians: Longtime film producers Neal Moritz, Jeff Kirschenbaum, and Chris Morgan (who wrote many of the franchise’s biggest hits) are all attached to executive produce.
A Multi-Series Universe
The announcement of four shows has sparked intense speculation among fans. While an NBCUniversal press release later in the day primarily highlighted one main series in active development, Diesel’s “four-show” comment suggests a strategy similar to the Yellowstone or Star Wars models, potentially including:
- Legacy Spin-offs: Focusing on established side characters.
- Origin Stories: Exploring the early days of the Toretto family or the Agency.
- Global Units: Expanding the scope to different international street-racing hubs.
The Road to “Fast Forever”
The TV expansion comes as the film saga nears its cinematic conclusion. The 11th and final film, titled Fast Forever, is currently scheduled to hit theaters on March 17, 2028.
By launching a television universe now, Peacock is positioning itself to be the permanent home for the franchise’s “Family” long after the credits roll on the final movie. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the first film, Diesel and original cast members Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster are expected to attend a special screening of The Fast and the Furious at the Cannes Film Festival later this month.
