CULVER CITY — The “Vought Cinematic Universe” is expanding backward in time. Prime Video has officially confirmed that the highly anticipated prequel series, Vought Rising, will launch in 2027.
The announcement, made on Friday, April 24, 2026, serves as a bittersweet milestone for fans; while it solidifies the future of the franchise, it comes alongside the news that the college-set spinoff Gen V has been canceled after its second season to make room for this “ambitious, period-piece epic.”
A 1950s Noir: The Plot of ‘Vought Rising’
Described by showrunner Eric Kripke as a “twisted murder mystery,” the series will take viewers back to the 1950s to witness the early, diabolical maneuvers of the Vought corporation.
The story centers on the dark legacy of Compound V in its infancy, exploring how a shadowy military project evolved into a global consumerist empire. Fans can expect a “salacious, grisly saga drenched in blood,” detailing how the first generation of Supes was marketed to the American public.
Key Story Elements:
- The “Origins” of Vought: How the company transitioned from a war-time secret to a public-facing titan.
- Military to Showmanship: The shift from rigid military discipline to the “superhero” celebrity culture.
- A Twisted Mystery: A central homicide investigation that threatens to expose the company’s foundation before it even begins.
The Return of the Icons
The prequel features the return of two of the franchise’s most popular—and dangerous—figures, reprised by the original actors:
- Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy: The series will explore his “early exploits” and his status as America’s first true celebrity superhero following World War II.
- Aya Cash as Stormfront (Clara Vought): Long before she was a modern-day extremist, she was the brilliant and calculating architect of Vought’s early maneuvers.
- The “Bombsight” Factor: The cast is rounded out by Mason Dye as the Supe known as Bombsight, a character recently introduced in the fifth season of The Boys.
The Road to the Flagship Finale
The 2027 launch window for Vought Rising provides a bridge for the fandom following the conclusion of the main series. Season 5 of The Boys is currently in its final stretch, with the series finale scheduled to air on May 20, 2026.
Eric Kripke confirmed that while filming has largely wrapped, the series requires a lengthy post-production phase. “It’s going to take us eight months to even finish the VFX,” Kripke told reporters. “We won’t be done until late 2026, and then Amazon needs time to localize it for 240 countries.”
With The Boys ending its legendary run next month, Vought Rising is being positioned as the primary torchbearer for the franchise’s future, promising to be just as “graphic and profane” as the original.
